The Two Towers Tickets

November 30, 2002

Yes! I got my tickets to see The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers today. One trip to movietickets.com and I had me a printed PDF ticket good for me, my family and several of my friends. On Wednesday December 18th at precisely 6:15 PM, I and my companions will watch the houselights dim and the opening credits roll on the latest LOTR movie…

If you’ve never bought movie tickets online I highly recommend it. I did it this way for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Each time it worked beautifully. You pay a small service charge but you don’t have to worry that you won’t get a ticket and you don’t have to stand in line to get it either. It’s nice to breeze to the front of the line, present your printout, and be swept inside ahead of all your technologically challenged neighbors.

Maye next they will adopt some new technology where you just wave your hand at the ticket-taker and he lets you in. I wouldn’t be able to resist the urge to wave my hand and say “you don’t need to see my ticket. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.” But then, given the age and sophistication of the average moviehouse ticketaker, the joke would probably be lost on them.

Thank You

November 28, 2002

It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the United States. 2002 has been such a remarkable and wonderful year so far that it’s difficult to single out even the dozen things which I am most grateful for. Thus, what follows is a totally random, highly unprioritized, and incomplete list of things for which I give thanks.

1. Paige and Daniel are smart and beautiful and healthy and happy.

2. I’m still married to the girl I met in highschool.

3. My health has improved dramatically (quit smoking, lost weight, tae kwon do, etc.)

4. We bought a beautiful 1928 cape cod home which we all love.

5. Logan, Ella and Rufus moved in with us this year.

6. I have an exciting new job which is less stressful and pays better than my old one.

And of course I am thankful for this blog. Publishing the trivia of my life here in words and pictures enables me to hang onto it better. My memory is so poor. Creating and being able to refer back to this record helps anchor me more firmly within my own life. It’s a good feeling. Thanks to the following who helped:

.sara for giving me the idea; blogger for getting me started; RedHat and MovableType and Gallery, for giving me great tools for free .

And thanks to you – the family, friends and random web surfers who visit.

What’s What at the Kosmic Cafe

November 27, 2002

I’m off work today and I’l continue to be off till next Monday. Woo! Today all I really hope to do is clean the house in preparation for Thanksgiving, clean the house in preparation for Thanksgiving, and clean the house in preparation for Thanksgiving. And at some point early this afternoon the kids and I are going to take a walk into downtown. About a week ago I was driving through and I noticed a hip-looking little place called “Kozmic Cafe” or some such thing. It can’t have been there for very long because I’d never noticed it and it is only five blocks from our house.

In case no one ever told you, having a cafe five blocks from one’s house and never going there would just be wrong. Driving there would be only a marginally better state of affairs. Walking the five blocks to the cafe is the only proper thing to do. So no matter what else I do today I will take that walk downtown to see what’s what at the Kozmic Cafe.

Random Gallery Image

November 26, 2002

With a little work and a little help from aaPHPrandomImage I now have the lovely random image you see on the left. Appropriately titled “Gallery,” clicking on the image takes you to (where else?) my gallery. Click your browsers “Refresh” button to see how the image changes. I also tidied up the bottom of the page, too. The “ETC.” section was added to hold those pesky miscelaneous items like my email address.

Things are starting to look nicer around here.

The 2.5 Re-Design

November 24, 2002

The place has been redesigned as you can see. Most notably there are now three columns instead of just two with everything divided thusly: blog links on the right, other links on the left, blog content in the middle.

It was actually more work than I thought to combine the color scheme I found at movabletype.org with the layout I found at blogstyles.com. I may be tweaking it a bit for the next few days so pardon the dust.

I Graduate December 15th

November 21, 2002

Daniel and Chris and I are cutting down to two tae kwon do classes per week: Monday and Wednesday. The Friday class got moved up an hour and although I could in theory shift my work hours 30 minutes earlier and still make it, it occured to me that it might be less stressful if I just omitted Fridays until after the first of the year. I have enough going on; the holidays of course, plus I’m trying to graduate here.

For those just tuning in, all I have to do is pass the class I am in right now to complete my masters degree in educational psychology from Marquette University where I work. I’ve had this degree hanging over my head for so long I probably won’t know how to act once it’s overwith. I started grad school at Marquette about 6.5 years ago, if I’m remembering correctly. Since that time I’ve dropped from full-time down to part time, then down to one class at a time… down to “no classes this year”…and finally, finally I am limping across the finish line nearly devoid of academic enthusiasm. I just want to be done. No, I need to be done.

And I will be. On December 15th I graduate and you’re welcome to attend. No tickets necessary, just show up.

So I think it’s fine that I do only two TKD lessons per week until after it’s all over. It’ll give me time to do my schoolwork. That might buy me some peace of mind about really and truly graduating instead of having horrible little daydreams in which I don’t pass the class dancing around in my head. Besides, I am still working out with my wieghts.
