Winter Solstice

December 21, 2005

It’s the first day of winter. The irony in that for us midwesterners is that it’s been so gosh-darned cold here already. Single digits have been seen recently, and today it was in the low teens. Plus it has snowed substantially more than once.

I’m not complaining, though. A lot of years we have no snow on the ground when Christmas comes. I always hope for some, but it seems to happen only rarely. It would still be nice to have fresh snow for Christmas. Not like a blizzard. Just an inch or two over night to make things sparkle in the morning. It’d be nice.

Anyway, happy winter solstice!

  1. I don’t think we’ve EVER had snow on Christmas here. I can remember a couple of day-after snow storms, which are almost as good, but not one single snowy Christmas morning. Oh well. We stay in the 40’s for most of the winter, too. Fair tradeoff. I’ve wintered in Chicago enough to appreciate this greatly.

  2. Yeah its the first day of winter, but! The days are finally getting longer again. I’ll take all the sun I can get.

  3. Dude, I’m in shorts today. It’s 71 degrees in Houston. Merry Christmas though…
