Soup From A Can, Fancy That

May 2, 2006

Welcome to Products Scott Likes. Today’s episode features Campbell’s Select Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla soup. Is it the best soup you’ve ever had? Not by a longshot. But it is surprisingly good for canned, pop-top, microwavable soup.

What makes it so good? it has flavor. Actual flavor. It doesn’t taste vaguely like ketchup. It doesn’t taste sort of like a can of Chef Boyardee Spaghettio’s. It actually has a bit of a kick to it! Like green chiles or something. I often complain that store-bought food doesn’t have enough flavor (salt yes, flavor no). The same could be said for many family restaurants. It’s as if the food is prepared by aiming at the palate of the average six-year-old. And that’s why eating Campbell’s Chicken Tortilla soup is so good. Six-year-olds would universally hate it. (Myself, I actually like to kick it up a notch add more flavor by shaking a little Cholula hot sauce into it, but your milage may vary.)

Anyway, if you’re looking for something quick and easy to pack for lunch and you like food with a little flavor, give this soup a try.

  1. It has been a while since I’ve had it, but it is pretty good soup.
