Wii Got One!

November 19, 2006

Paige and I got up at way early and drove to Wal-Mart. We’d been told that they had 29 Nintendo Wiis for sale and we figured we should get there well before the 7am opening time. We arrived at 5:30 on the dot – only to be told that tickets had been handed out to everyone already in line and they were effectively sold out.

I shan’t describe for you how pissed I was at that moment. Having spoken personally to Wal-Mart employees twice and been told nothing about any tickets or 5 am dispersement times, I felt cheated. But we weren’t beaten yet. We drove off in the dark to another Wal-Mart. Where we were turned away again.

Our last option was Best Buy. Did they have Wiis? There was a young man standing outside the darkened store who told us that if we got in line we “probably would get one.”

Line? It was then that we noticed the veritable tent city along the edges of the building. We followed the line of murmuring refugees around the corner, found the end of the line and settled in.

We had a lovely time chatting with our linemates. People shared food, coffee and conversation. Nobody got shot or robbed.

After three hours in the cold, a store representative finally came out and gave tickets. He started at the head of the line and worked his way back. Every single person in line got a ticket. There was one left over, which was quickly grabbed by a man who had just walked up hoping to get lucky.

  1. Awesome!!!

  2. I nabbed one for the better half and myself as well. Zelda has all but eaten my soul at this point, no matter how much I try to fight it.

  3. No time for idle chatter. I’m in the middle of the Goron mountain temple!
