Spam Report

May 1, 2007

Gmail does a pretty decent job at identifying spam and placing it in the Spam folder. Anything older than 15 days gets automatically deleted. How much is in there? About 2000 messages at any given time. That means I get about 2000 spam emails every two weeks, or about 133 per day. Or five an hour.

My Akismet WordPress plugin nabs the spam comments on my blog. It automatically deletes anything older than 30 days. How many comments are in there? About 2000 at any given time. That means I get about 66 per day, or almost 3 per hour.

it boggles my mind to think about how much internet traffic is due to spam and viruses and other noxious shit.
