Commemorative bookplate

March 25, 2008

In recognition of your service, Raynor Memorial libraries would like to invite you to select a book from our collection in which we will place a commemorative bookplate acknowledging your service to the university.

Whoa. So I can either select a book, or I can choose a subject area and let them choose for me (as if!).

What book would you pick?

March 24, 2008

I realized suddenly that I had 6.5 vacation days to burn before July 1, so I scheduled some, including today and tomorrow.

So far, so good. Today so far I got the dog out, got Nicky fed and dressed and off to the Y. Then I got an oil change. Then I came home and took Barley for a 2 mile walk. Next, a shower, followed by the most comfortable shave I’ve had in months. It’s like I all of a sudden realized I’d been being too aggressive with my razor, so I stopped–with a very nice result.

A little later I’ll figure out something for dinner and pick up Nicky. All of which is very boring, but very relaxing.

I have a couple of days off, so I’ve been having a lot of fun with the new D300. My goal is to get super comfortable with it before bringing it to my next job.

A window of opportunity won’t open itself.

March 19, 2008

I am on! Sort of!

I surfed over there and saw an entry about Compfight, a Flickr search tool, and immediately went “hey, that photo of the fortune cookie fortune looks awfully familiar…could it be?”

Well, I figured I’d find out. Off to flickr. I searched for Boingboing, as that’s what the Compfight program appears to be doing in the screenshot. Bingo! I found the fortune photo. It sure looked like mine, but was it? Here’s mine for comparison. Definitely an altered version, but definitely mine.

I was just wondering if this “jackcheng” guy should have credited me when I saw it: he did. Right under his photoshopped version of my photo is a link back to my original. All is right with the universe.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is as close as I’ll ever get to being on boingboing.

Al-Qamera Terrorism, Part II

March 18, 2008

Remember when I got stopped in Mayfair Mall and told to cease my al Qamera terrorist activities?

Well, guess what? Note commandment number one.

I’m pissed. I’m either going to send them a nasty email or show up with my camera itching for a confrontation–or both.

Cream City Milwaukee March Photo Walk

March 17, 2008

Wow, the photo walk was amazing. I think there were over 35 people there! It was great seeing everyone, first-timers and old-timers alike.

Here’s a couple of my shots, but what you really should do is click here to see everyone’s results.

The thousand injuries of Fortunato

March 13, 2008

For weeks the area just outside my office door has been undergoing remodeling. And I do mean right outside my door. Sometimes the noise is really disturbing. Just the other day one of my office mates was remarking how impossible it was to get any work done.

“Oh, I know,” I said. “But you don’t know the half of it. Apparently there have been some changes to the remodeling plans.”

“Really?” he asked. “What changes?”

“Well, did you ever read The Cask of Amontillado?”
