Book?

July 29, 2008

Should I write a book? Someone recently suggested it and it’s not the only time that idea has been floated my way.

Those of you who only read the poorly composed missives on the pages of this blog may be smiling to yourselves, but let me assure you: I can write passably!

What would I write about? A novel is almost out of the question. I can’t imagine anything harder or anything which I’m less prepared for. A technology how-to? Too many smarter people out there to compete with. Maybe something autobiographical. My life isn’t that interesting, but it’s all in the telling anyway, right? Right.

I think I need to go read something for inspiration.

  1. why not a novel? you have the talent, the imagination. i think you have the time. the fact that you can’t think of anything harder means you’ll feel far more rewarded when it’s accomplished!

also, autobiographical is fine, only i feel you could wait another 30 years or so because perhaps something more unimaginably great than everything so far will happen to you.

  2. Yes Scott, please write a book. Call it the “audacity of the dreams of your father.”
You could tell us about your socialist friends, and Bill Ayers, then you could talk about “white folks greed”, and end with a screed about God damning America with more HOPE!

  3. Or I could write a book about how freaky it is to engage in political debates with extremist ideologues who live right here in my own back yard!

It is seriously odd that you wrote this today. Last night I spent a while pondering about a novel based on the various characters that troll the Cheddarsphere. I am sure you could come up with enough story lines to fill a series of novels.

  5. William Gibson’s “Spook Country” brought on the thoughts about such a novel.

  6. I love WGcand spook country!

  7. If you are intersested, you should at least do National Novel Writing Month this November. I did it last year, and yes I completed my goal, but not my novel…some day…some day.
